ORIENTATION
Tugu Khatulistiwa marks the area crossed by the equator on Jalan Khatulistiwa in Batu Layang, North Pontianak. It is more than a photo stop: this place connects geography, astronomy and the history of mapping.
At zero degrees latitude, the Earth is read as two hemispheres. In Pontianak, that invisible idea is given a form—a ring, an arrow and a place to pause.

02 · LAYERS OF TIME
The first version was installed in 1928 as a geographical-survey marker. Its form evolved in several stages, while the present monument protects traces of the early marker within its complex.
An expedition team used a wooden stake to mark the site.
The marker was renewed as a cylindrical iron post.
A structure with an arrow and ring clarified the zero-degree latitude marker.
A major extension created the monument visitors recognise today.

03 · LOOK UP
Around 21–23 March and 21–23 September, the sun can sit very near overhead at midday. At culmination, the shadow of an upright object seems to gather directly beneath it.
Dates and observation times depend on astronomical calculations and weather. Treat these windows as a cue to check local schedules, not as a fixed appointment.
